Everyone across the globe has been impacted by COVID-19. One of the most frequently asked questions is, “What can I do?” As Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, recently stated, “When you’re dealing with a virus outbreak, you are always behind where you think you are. So therefore, you’ve got to jump ahead and stay ahead of the curve.”
You have to think big.
Sense Corp understands that we are all part of a connected business community. To that end, we want to share what we are observing, communicating, and actively executing in response to COVID-19. Here are some key items.
Inform and Communicate:
These are tense times, where direct, succinct, and factual information from a central point of communication is critical. To best address the current state with Sense Corp, we mobilized a dedicated team that was tasked with virtually bringing together the entire company to share factual information about COVID-19, talk about best practices of working from home, provide resources on managing remote teams, discuss how to focus on health and wellness at home, and provide suggestions and resources on how to best work through childcare and home schooling.
By addressing these subjects, we hope to calm the situation, provide context to the various news stories, and let everyone know we are available to help both personally and professionally.
Run as Normal – Virtually:
While the saying is “The show must go on,” we know that for many businesses that is not possible. As restaurants and stores close, our team is fortunate enough to be able to say, “the show can go on – virtually.”
There are several video conferencing/telecommuting solutions in the market. Sense Corp utilizes BlueJeans as our corporate solution as it easily allows us to have virtual face-to-face conversations at the click of a button. With the current challenges, we have even expanded our use of BlueJeans to our new employee onboarding (yes – we are still hiring). We now ship laptops and welcome packets to our new employees at their home, and then complete the full onboarding process via video conference.
We are also using video conferencing extensively in our communication with clients and project teams have even figured out how to have virtual happy hours. Michael Daehne, Partner & Director within our Commercial Division, organized the first of our virtual social events and commented, “the virtual happy hour was a great way to get the team together, socialize and decompress a bit, and talk about the unique challenges and opportunities presented by this situation.”
Leverage the Cloud for Collaboration:
Over the years, we’ve moved all our applications to the cloud. As part of this, we rely heavily on Microsoft Office365 and the use of Microsoft Teams and Microsoft SharePoint to collaborate. Every consultant receives extensive training and best practices on how to use these technologies. This has allowed our consultants to maintain their productivity as they adjust to a new normal with COVID-19. Even though we are in different locations, we can share information, whiteboard, and work on documents in real time. We are grateful that our past efforts to ensure we have the right technologies and processes in place have afforded us the ability to transition to a virtual workplace so easily.
