AUSTIN, Texas (March 23, 2021) – A Fortune 100 insurance provider was honored recently with a CIO 100 Award for the innovative approach they took with Sense Corp in developing and implementing an OutSystems pre-screening digital application that delivered rapid business value. Sense Corp Technical Program Manager Dane Sauceda accepted the award on behalf of the client, which is seeing nearly $1 million in annualized savings from its long-term care (LTC) division as a result of the new app.
Acknowledged as a mark of enterprise excellence, the CIO 100 Awards celebrate 100 organizations and the teams within them that are using IT in innovative ways to deliver business value, whether by creating competitive advantage, optimizing business processes, enabling growth, or improving relationships with customers.
The LTC Pre-Screening Tool, which is based on the OutSystems platform, qualified the client for the award due to the low-code, rapid-iteration approach Sense Corp applied in development of the application.
“Using the low-code OutSystems platform for user interface development and applying a branded style guide we had previously developed for the client allowed us to iterate at speed – with a minimum of coding or rework — to try different question flows and screen layouts,” said Sauceda, who served as project manager. “Ultimately, it allowed us to cut the time required to complete pre-screening from an average of 45 minutes to less than five minutes.”
The tool has already garnered Sense Corp recognition by OutSystems as Innovator of the Year in the America’s region, and is providing significant value by allowing the insurer’s LTC agents to use a dynamic survey to assess potential clients’ insurability. By using this tool for optimized pre-screening, the company is reducing dependence on the complex underwriting process and its rate of policy declines, which cost around $3,000 per application.
Since the application went live, the insurance provider has seen nearly a 10% drop in declinations, which equates to an annualized saving of more than $937,000. Sense Corp anticipates considerable upside to these figures in the years ahead since the COVID disruption throughout 2020 significantly reduced the number of face-to-face meetings.
The LTC Pre-Screening Tool is one of the applications Sense Corp developed as part of AppCentral, a suite of consolidated web and mobile tools intended to support the digital transformation of the insurance company’s LTC sales division. By using the low-code OutSystems platform and the innovative development approach, Sense Corp continues to expand AppCentral with a host of applications designed to reduce operating costs, provide policy transparency, and increase sales efficiency across the provider’s entire organization.
“We think our story provides an excellent example of how modern application development techniques enable explorative innovation,” added Sauceda. “We hope this will inspire other businesses to try similar techniques that allow bolder risk-taking.”
